Uniwersytet Jagielloński participated in 1st #TheGuild PhD Summer School at Université Paris Diderot 📚 🗼
Grab some remarks from Professor Radosław Rybkowski, PhD 👇
This July Paris Diderot University organized the first Summer School for Ph.D. Students of the Guild of European Research Intensive Universities. The Jagiellonian University, as a member of the Guild has been very active in shaping the concept and program of this Summer School, the focus of which was on transferable skills. The participants were to understand how their research skills could be applied outside of the academia: in business, public sector and in NGOs. Thanks to the support provided by the Jagiellonian University four of our Ph.D. students were able to join this first edition of the School.
The active participation of the JU was reflected not only by the number of our Ph.D. student attending the school (the highest among all Guild universities). Two of our professors: Małgorzata Zachara, Ph.D. and Radosław Rybkowski, Ph.D. were among the speakers invited to Paris. They taught (respectively) about the leadership skills and the use of Design Thinking in innovative problem-solving. The Summer School for Ph.D. Students was a perfect combination of theory and practice. Mornings, participants had workshops at the university while in the afternoons they could see how research skills could be applied in various non-academic jobs. One of the most inspiring visits was to the R&D centre of Renault—the Techno centre at the outskirts of Paris. This huge research complex, employing ca. 12,000 persons, proved that ambitious researchers of any discipline can use their expertise not only at universities.
Comments of the Summer School’s participants proved that in Paris we could gather a group of passionate young researchers, discussing their ambitions and plans late into the night (with magic of Paris being unquestionably great asset). It also important to appreciate great effort of Professor Thomas Coudreau of Paris Diderot University, without his passion and energy this School would have never been organized. Let us hope that next editions of the School will be even better and one day it will be organized in Krakow.
