The University of Vienna joins The Guild

The University of Vienna, Austria’s foremost university, has joined The Guild, ahead of its public launch at its Opening Symposium on 21 November 2016 in Brussels. The oldest university in German-speaking Europe, the University of Vienna was founded in 1365. One of Europe’s leading universities, Vienna has particular strengths in Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Physics, Mathematics and Humanities.

Commenting on the University’s decision, Prof. Engl, Rector of the University of Vienna, noted, “The University is pleased to join The Guild ahead of its public launch, and looks forward to contributing fully to its mission to engage with Research and Innovation in Europe. We are also committed to closer collaboration with the Guild’s membership in research, education, and university governance.”

In response, Ole Petter Ottersen, Chair of the Guild, said: “We are pleased to welcome the University of Vienna, which will strengthen the Guild through its academic excellence, its history, and its close ties to other university networks, notably the European University Association (for which it was a founding member).”
