King’s College London joins The Guild

King’s College London has been the latest member to accept The Guild’s invitation of membership, ahead of the launch in November of a series of public events in Brussels to mark its creation.  King’s College London is one of the World’s top 25 universities. Its outstanding strengths include Health (with Dentistry and Pharmacology ranked in the top five globally), the Social Sciences, Law, and the Arts and Humanities. King’s College London is a founding member of the Francis Crick Institute in London, and the King’s Policy Institute, and the King’s Cultural Institute, have been at the forefront of public engagement in London.
The Guild’s Chair, Professor Ole Petter Ottersen, said: ‘I am delighted to welcome King’s College London, whose academic excellence will further enhance the Guild’s voice, and the quality of its academic interactions. Its joining is an important statement about our shared commitment to academic collaboration and excellence, which must prevail over current political uncertainties in relation to discussions between the UK and the EU.’
President and Principal of King’s Professor Ed Byrne AC said: ‘As a university which has always had a strong international core since its inception and is highly collaborative in its research, I am honoured that King’s is joining this excellent initiative.  The problems facing society are increasingly global and the pooling and sharing of our data, scientific expertise and research to address these challenges is vital. For King’s and other UK universities, actively engaging at a high level in what are very uncertain times, post the EU Referendum, is absolutely essential.’
Professor Joanna Newman, Vice Principal (International) of King’s said: ‘We are looking forward to joining an excellent network of research intensive universities that span across Europe.  As a partner, we anticipate deepening our connections in research and education to address some of the major challenges facing global societies today’.
