Dear Researchers,
We have received a request from Prof. Nora Brambilla (TU Munich) for support of a petition which has now received over 4,000 signatures from the scientific community – including 17 Nobel Laureates. The letter asks for ‘research and education’ to be in the title of the new Commissioner (whose current proposed title is ‘Innovation and Youth), on the grounds that education and research are a critical basis for innovation. It is a request which we expressed very forcefully in our Open Letter to the Commissioner-nominee, Mariya Gabriel, last week.
The organisers are looking for signatures in the entire scientific community, but they are also keen to see if high-profile Scientists – including Presidents, Award Winners, etc) can sign the petitions. The timing is excellent, as there is one week to go until the confirmation hearings for the new Commission begin (30 Sept). If you feel you agree with the petition, you can access it here: https://indico.uis.no/event/5/overview.
And of course, please feel free to pass this on as you wish
